NOW & THEN
Bethel Emanuel Temple C.O.G.I.C was founded by the late Mother Sarah Hankins. In 2002 she transitioned, and God led Curtis B. Sexton to the church with Mother Sarah Hankins favor and blessings to continue the work of God's kingdom. Under the leadership of Bishop, Curtis B. Sexton as Pastor and his wife, Elect-Lady Evangelist Denise Sexton. Together the two is a power team for change led by the spirit and the word of God.
No matter what your Christian background is (or isn't), we hope you'll join us on Sunday. Here at Bethel Emanuel Temple, you'll find people of all sizes, stripes, and colors, and we welcome everyone--including you. Our services start at 10:00 am every Sunday.
Bishop Curtis B. Sexton was born a Brooklyn native. His pastoral ministry began at the age of 37 in 1995. God instructed him to start a church in a corporate building in Manhattan. From there, he relocated to Brooklyn, followed by Queens, where he presently serves as Pastor. He is the Bishop of the Guyana Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction C.O.G.I.C. He is a man of great patience and love who teaches from the Holy Bible, the living word of God.
Visitor/New MemberÂ
Bethel Emanuel Temple, we're always excited to welcome new visitors. We hope you'll join us for a service, and we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Here's what you can expect when you come to 10 am Sunday morning service.
Our church is located at 106-23rd 154th street, Jamaica, NY and limited parking is located in the small lot next to the church. If you have mobility restrictions, feel free to use ramp located in the lot.
Please don't worry about what you'll wear to church, for we truly believe people should come to God as they are. You don't need to dress up to get his approval--that comes through Jesus' sacrifice. Once you walk in the doors, you'll see that the congregation has all types of people in all kinds of dress. While a few people in the church wear ties, others like to remind them that Jesus never wore a tie. Shorts are as welcome as suits, and you'll see both.
When you walk in, find one of our greeters and introduce yourself. They're usually stationed at the doors, and they'll show you where everything is. They'll help you find the Sunday school locations for you and your children. Our greeters and ushers can also point you to the restrooms, sanctuary and fellowship area. If you have any questions about the service itself, the greeters are able to provide helpful answers.
Be sure to hang around after the service and join us for lite refreshments. You'll have a chance to meet our pastor and many other people in the church. We'd also love to get to know you so you're a familiar face the next time you come.
